Through this project, American Gateways aims to ensure that people without legal representation receive the information and tools they need to defend themselves effectively and navigate the immigration court process with confidence.
American Gateways will provide general legal information, individual education, and limited assistance with application preparation and filing directly at the Immigration Court.
The primary goal of this project is to empower people to effectively represent themselves during court hearings and to reduce the risk of detention during or after their proceedings.
Our staff will offer these services on a weekly basis, working in collaboration with the private bar and community organizations to ensure broader support and access to justice.
PAPA Monthly Clinics
In addition to in-person court assistance at the San Antonio Immigration Court, the
Pro Se Assistance – American Gateways (PAPA) Project also includes free,
monthly off-site clinics for people with future court hearing dates. American
Gateways staff will conduct these clinics in collaboration with pro bono attorneys
and community volunteers.
