National Celebration of Pro Bono Month

October is the National Celebration of Pro Bono month and so we want to take this moment to celebrate and honor our 2022 Pro Bono Awardees!

  1. Madeleine Boyer, Chris Weimer, Adela Meraz and Daniel Berner 

These exceptional attorneys represented a large family of asylum seekers from Mexico before the Houston Asylum office and before the Immigration Court. These asylum cases took nearly 10 years and hundreds of attorney and paralegal hours to complete – and win their cases!. Their dedication and perseverance are phenomenal!

  1. Andy Powell 

Andy is one of our newest pro bono volunteers who has spent numerous hours successfully representing an asylum client before the Immigration Court, ultimately winning her case. He is a dedicated advocate and has recently taken on another asylum case before the Immigration Court.

  1. Kerry Van Dusen 

Kerry has spent extensive hours meeting with clients, drafting affidavits, and filing Mendez Rojas notices with the Immigration Court in our asylum cases to ensure that our clients met their filing deadlines. In addition, Kerry has assisted several Afghan families apply for asylum before the Asylum Office.

  1. Norton Rose Fulbright and Beveridge & Diamond 

Both of these firms are long-time pro bono partners and supporters of American Gateways. Their attorneys have contributed a tremendous number of hours representing clients before the Asylum Office and the Immigration Court. They are each dedicated to advancing our mission and ensuring that our clients have equal access to justice as they build new lives in the U.S. We truly appreciate your partnership!
