Volunteering at American Gateways - an eye opening experience
Face it, some organizations want volunteers just for the grunt work. At American Gateways our goal is to ensure that each volunteer has a meaningful experience. From serving as interpreters, translaters, and legal researchers, to assisting with fundraising or website design - American Gateways has a volunteer job for you that is more than just data entry!
Volunteers are an invaluable part of the American Gateways team. Contributing thousand of hours every year, they dramatically increase the number of people that American Gateways is able to help through the immigration process. Call about helping our staff with document translation, interpretation for clients, communications, adminstrative tasks, and other projects. Our Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator works with volunteers and pro bono attorneys to ensure that everyone benefits from the work done.

CURRENT VOLUNTEER NEEDS
Bilingual Volunteers Needed June 25th thru July 25th
What: Help Spanish speaking clients complete immigration documents during TPS Clinics
Skills Needed: Must be bilingual in Spanish and English. No legal experience necessary.
What is TPS: Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is a special legal status given to some citizens of countries that have undergone natural disasters, or civil unrest. It allows them to stay in the United States while their country stabilizes. Every 18 months American Gateways assists our TPS clients from Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador to renew their TPS status.
Under the supervision of an American Gateways staff attorney, volunteers will help our TPS clients complete the immigration documents needed to renew their TPS status. Because all our clients are Spanish speakers, volunteers must be proficient in Spanish.

Pro Bono Attorney Volunteers
The demands for our services continues to outpace our ability to meet them. Thousands of clients are turned away each year simply because we lack the resources to help them - even though they may have valid claims to stay in the US. Last year we provided services benefiting over 16,000 people and won 99% of our cases we worked on behalf of victims of crime and survivors of violence. With your help we can grow this number!
Join our team of pro bono attorneys from across Central Texas who's lives have been transformed as they advocate for Asylum seekers, victims of human trafficking, and abused women seeking to break away from her American husband who's threats of deportation have held her captive.
